          Bill Layne, 72, passed away Saturday June 3, 2017 at his residence in Salt Lick following a brief battle with cancer.

          Bill was born October 24, 1944 at Wheelwright, KY to Frank and Brooxie “My” Layne and was raised at Dry Creek near Pikeville, KY.

          In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Louise Layne and 1 brother, Donald Layne.

          Survivors include 1 sister, Mary Lou Dodson of Columbus, OH, 3 brothers, Jimmy of Columbus, OH, John Frank of Paintsville, KY and twin brother, Joe of Hilliard, OH, 2 daughters, Robyn (Steve) Meadows of Salt Lick, KY, Lori (Bob) Stallard of Xenia, OH, 2 sons, Mike (Melissa) Seely of Raymond, OH and Bob (Tracy) Harrison of Middletown, OH, 8 beloved grandchildren, Brandon (Jenna) Meadows, Sean (Amanda) Meadows, Stephanie Meadows, Aaron Meadows, Steven (Candy) Jones, Wylie Seely, Casey (Derrick) Clay and Robbie Stallard, 11 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and many close friends. He also leaves behind his loyal companion, Judy Kaye---Truly a man’s best friend.

          A retired miner, Bill spent 25 years in the coal fields of Eastern Kentucky. He was a Kentucky Colonel and a very proud member of the United Mine Workers Of America. A self taught blacksmith and trainer from his youth, he will best be remembered for his love of all things horses. He was also very fond of playing trucks with his great-grandsons during church service. He was a member of Grace Gospel Tabernacle in Owingsville, KY.

          Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday June 7, 2017 at 1:00 PM at Grace Gospel Tabernacle with Bro. Steve Meadows officiating. Burial will follow at Dickerson Cemetery, Salt Lick, KY. Visitation will be from 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM Wednesday at the church.

          Following the committal service at Dickerson Cemetery, all family and friends are invited back to Grace Gospel Tabernacle for a fellowship meal provided by the Sisters Of Grace.

          In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to Powell Funeral Home.
