Carolyn Stull Obituary

Carolyn Stull, age 83, beloved wife, mom, “Maw,” cousin and friend, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 2, 2022 at her home in Salt Lick, KY. She was born June 8, 1938 to the late Walter and Lillian Razor.

Carolyn married her high school sweetheart, Melvin Stull, on November 24, 1956. They made their home in Salt Lick and built a life based on faith, love and friendship for 65 years. They had 2 children – Randy, born in 1960 and Suzanne, born in 1965.

Carolyn was a graduate of Bath County High School. Having a desire to follow in her mother’s footsteps to teach young children, she attended Morehead State University as a non-traditional student, completing a Bachelors degree in Elementary Education. She taught first grade at Salt Lick Elementary School for 27 years, sharing her passion for learning to hundreds of young minds. While teaching, she completed her Masters degree in education and a Rank I certification in education, both at Morehead State University. After her retirement from the Bath County School System, she continued in education by serving as a substitute teacher in Bath and Menifee counties.

Carolyn had various hobbies and interests – traveling, reading and shopping to name a few. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren who lovingly called her “Maw.”  She was called “Maw” by their friends as well – young and old alike. One of her favorite destinations was Myrtle Beach in July of every year where she would spend time with her entire family laughing and making precious memories that will last forever. Another love of Carolyn’s life was her dogs. She rescued and cared for numerous dogs over the years, some of whom were quite the characters. If a dog needed a home, Carolyn made sure it had one.

Carolyn became a charter member of the Order of the Eastern Star Salt Lick Chapter in 1960. She served as Worthy Matron of the Salt Lick Chapter and Worthy Grand Matron of Kentucky in 2001 – 2002. For many years, she and Melvin have been active and loyal members. Their home chapter is Nicholasville Chapter 223. Through this involvement they made many dear, lifelong friends throughout the state and nation.

From a young age, Carolyn was always active in church, filling many roles as needed. She played the piano and was active in Bible School, Sunday School and the youth program. She also supported Melvin as an Elder’s wife at the Salt Lick Christian Church for the many years that he served as Elder. She was a member of Gateway Christian Church in Mount Sterling, KY.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents Walter C. Razor and Lillian Wright Razor.

Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Melvin Stull; her children, Randy Stull and his wife Jenny, and Suzanne Hogge and her husband Troy; her grandchildren Meghan Stull, Brittany Hisel (Aaron), Bethany Lee (Drew), Landon Hogge, Logan Hogge (Marisa) and Christopher Stull; her great-grandchildren Hattie Hisel, Kyron Hisel, Max Lee, Harper Hisel, Baker Lee and number 6 who is due in May.
