James B. "Jay" Booth, 85, of 95 Oakdale Drive, Clearfield, passed away Monday November 2, 2009 at his residence after an extended illness.
Born April 30, 1924 in Bath County, he was the son of the late James and Gladys McCarty Booth. Mr. Booth was a mechanic and retired Rowan County Board Of Education Transportation Supervisor, retiring in 1988 after 24 years service and had also served in the Civilian Conservation Corp in Idaho in his younger years and was a former rual route mail carrier in Rowan County. He was a devoted member of the Midland First Church Of God and enjoyed traveling, working outside and spending time with his family and church.
Survivors include his loving wife of 60 years, Elizabeth Ingram Booth, 1 daughter, Brenda Rigsby and her husband Steve of Clearfield, 1 grandson, Christopher S. Rigsby of Clearfield, 1 niece and 3 nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Ethel Rae Metsker and Edna Pearl Maynard.
Funeral services for Mr. Booth will be conducted Wednesday November 4, 2009 at 1:00 PM at the Midland First Church Of God with Rev. Bush Stevenson and Rev. Guy McKenzie officiating. Burial will follow in the Jones Cemetery at Midland. Visitation will be from 6 - 9 PM Tuesday November 3, 2009 at Powell Funeral Home in Salt Lick. In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to the Midland First Church Of God or St. Claire Hospice, in his memory.
