Jerry Douglas Maze, 77 of Owingsville, KY, passed away Wednesday April 29, 2020 following a sudden illness.
He was the loving husband of Brenda Sorrell Maze for the last 44 years.
Jerry was born at Salt Lick, KY on February 28, 1943 to the late Arthur and Christine Maze. Beside his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Thomas C. Maze and Roger M. Maze.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are his two children, John Maze (Whitney Strange) of Owingsville, KY and Jessica Maze Bowling (Larry) of Owingsville, KY., 4 grandsons, Austin, Alan and Alex Bowling and Mason Maze, 2 sisters, Melinda Staton (Bobby) of Owingsville, KY and Marilyn Kay Swartz (Carroll) of Louisville, KY, 1 sister-in-law, Donna Gail Maze of Owingsville, KY, 1 brother-in-law, Jimmy Sorrell (Lou Ann) of Paris, KY, several nieces, nephews and a host of special friends.
Jerry had an appreciation for a hard worker, and he showed this through example throughout his life. As a young boy, he worked on his father’s farm and continued farming throughout his lifetime. He worked on the pipeline, worked to build I-64 and worked stripping coal. He built houses and resold them and at the age of 26 he built Hilltop Lodge Nursing Home in Owingsville, KY which he owned and operated for 31 years. He built a mobile home community in Muncie, IN and then later went on to build Creekside Village, a mobile home community in Owingsville, KY.
Jerry was a kind hearted person who helped a lot of people, but you would never know it because he wasn’t one to talk about it. He never met a stranger and could have a conversation with anyone he met. He was very outspoken and always gave his opinion or advice. He was a very vibrant 77 year old and every day set out with goals to achieve. Jerry will be greatly missed by an array of family and friends.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, services will be private under the care and direction of Powell Funeral Home, Salt Lick, KY. Burial will be in the Owingsville Cemetery, Owingsville, KY.
Serving as pallbearers will be Tim Lyons, Kris Vance, Dodd Sorrell, Ciro Rodriguez, Joe Maze and Steve Butcher. Honorary Pallbearers will be Bobby Staton, Roger Griffith, Doug Hatton, Jerry Shrout, Lucian Ross, Butch Hardy and Jim Sorrell.
