Melvin Stull Obituary

Melvin Stull, age 88, beloved husband, dad, grandfather (Paw), relative and friend, was called home by his Lord on Friday, June 12, 2026.

He was born April 28, 1938 to the late Woodford and Leona Stull in Preston and lived there through his school years. He was a graduate of Owingsville High School Class of 1956.

Melvin married his high school sweetheart, Carolyn Razor Stull, on November 24, 1956. They made their home in Salt Lick and built a life based on faith, love and friendship for 65 years. They had 2 children – Randy, born in 1960 and Suzanne, born in 1965.

He was an exceptional basketball and baseball player in High School, especially an outstanding baseball pitcher. He tried out for the Cincinnati Reds and was offered a minor league contract with the team, but decided instead to stay home to work and raise a family. He worked in Indiana in the manufacturing factories for 2 years but came home to stay in 1960 and began his career job with the Kentucky Department of Highways, where he served as the District 9 Utility Agent for 35 years. He retired in 1995, and soon after moved to the family farm where he and Carolyn lived.

Melvin had many interests in retirement including his church, taking care of the farm, Eastern Star, and traveling. But his greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren who lovingly called him “Paw.” Some of his favorite times were going to ball games, golf tournaments and vacations, in particular the annual family summer vacations to Myrtle Beach in July each year where he would spend time with his entire family making precious memories that will last forever.

Melvin inherited a love for dogs from Carolyn. Together they raised, rescued and cared for many dogs over the years.

Melvin became a charter member of the Order of the Eastern Star Salt Lick Chapter in March, 1989. He served as Worthy Patron of the Salt Lick Chapter and Worthy Grand Patron of Kentucky in 2013 – 2014. For many years, he and Carolyn were active and loyal members. Their home chapter is Nicholasville Chapter 223. Through this involvement they made many dear, lifelong friends throughout the state and nation.

Melvin was always active in church, serving as an Elder at the Salt Lick Christian Church for many years, and most currently a member of Gateway Christian Church in Mount Sterling, where he was an active member who loved the people and the fellowship.

Melvin was preceded in death by his parents Woodford Clay and Leona Ford Stull, two brothers, Glenn Stull and Dee Stull, and beloved wife of 65 years, Carolyn.

Survivors include his son Randy Stull (Jenny), and his daughter Suzanne Hogge (Troy); his grandchildren Meghan Stull, Brittany Hisel (Aaron), Bethany Lee (Drew), Landon Hogge, Logan Hogge (Marisa) and Christopher Stull (Amelia); his great-grandchildren Hattie Hisel, Kyron Hisel, Max Lee, Harper Hisel, Baker Lee, Harlow Hisel, and Beau Lee. Also surviving is his sister Louise Clarke (Kenneth) of Jeffersonville, IN, his sister-in-law Velma Stull of Mt. Sterling, as well as many cherished cousins, nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at the Gateway Christian Church, 801 Winchester Road, Mount Sterling, KY 40353 on Wednesday, June 17, 2026 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be at 11:00 am, Thursday, June 18, 2026 at the church with Ministers Bill Kilgore and Glenn Emery and grandson-in-law Aaron Hisel officiating.
