Nan Ward Obituary

          Nan K. Ward, 85, of Mount Sterling, KY and formerly of Salt Lick, KY, passed away Friday December 25, 2020 at Saint Joseph Hospital, Mt. Sterling, KY.

          Born September 25, 1935 at Salt Lick, KY a daughter of the late Travis and Marjorie Kimbrell Karrick. She was the widow of the late Lonnie Ward.

She was a retired teacher and coach, having taught and coached at the college level through the elementary school level including Morehead State University as director of women’s physical education, Breckinridge Training School as teacher and coach of tennis, track, swimming and golf, Salt Lick Elementary School as science teacher and coach and also taught in the Gateway Area Juvenile Diversion Program. In 1993 she was inducted into the Morehead State University Alumni Hall Of Fame and the Kentucky High School Athletic Association Hall Of Fame. She was past president and life member of the Kentucky Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance and was past president of PSI Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma International Society For Outstanding Women Educators.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her twin sister Ann Karrick and her brother Bill Karrick.

Survivors include her son Jim Ward and his wife Wendi of Franklin, WI, 3 grandchildren, Sarah Heinevetter and husband Markus, Anna Lathers and husband Jake and Matthew Ward, 2 great-grandchildren, Colton Ward-Wade and Eleanor Lathers.

A private family memorial service will be held at a later date. Powell Funeral Home, Salt Lick, KY is assisting the family with arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, her family suggests contributions in her memory to Morehead State University Karrick-Ward Athletics Enhancement Scholarship c/o M.S.U. Foundation, Inc., 150 University Blvd., Box 1887, Morehead, KY 40351. .
