Robert Leo McKenzie

          Robert L. “Bobby” McKenzie, 74, of Olympia Springs Road, Olympia, KY, passed away Saturday November 16, 2024 at UK-St. Claire Regional Medical Center, Morehead, KY.

          Born December 14, 1949 at Wharton, WV, a son of the late Robert Sherwood and Clara Nell Johnson McKenzie. Bobby was a U.S. Air Force veteran serving during the Viet Nam War era. He was retired from Harper’s Construction and was the former owner/operator of New Spot Roller Rink in Salt Lick and was the current   co-owner/operator of Slate Rock Cattle Co.

          In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Kay Phillips and her husband Justin and his father and mother in law: Harold and Inalee Johnson.

          Survivors include his wife Rita Johnson McKenzie who he wed December 13, 1969, 2 sons: Rob (Tiffany) McKenzie and Jason (Sabrina) McKenzie, his 5 grandchildren: Brittany (Chris) Gay, Ashley (Matt) Sunley, Nathan McKenzie, Dawson Rogers and Lorelai McKenzie, 3 great-grandchildren: Colton Sunley and Bode Sunley and Rylee Grace Gay due to arrive in December,  2 sisters: Joan (Steve) Becraft and Cindy (Randy) Cline 5 brothers: Gary (Nisi) McKenzie, Dennis (Cheryl) McKenzie, Marty McKenzie, Greg McKenzie and Mark (Branita) McKenzie. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.

          Visitation for Bobby will be Tuesday evening November 19 from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM at Lakeview Community Church.

          Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday November 20, 2024 at 1:00 PM at Lakeview Community Church with Bro. Greg Bowman officiating. Interment will follow in McKenzie Family Cemetery with full Military Honors presented by Morehead American Legion Post #126.

          Serving as pallbearers: Terry Brown, Wayne Fulton, Lee Allen, Scott McKenzie, Chuck Johnson, Colt McKenzie, Greg Riley, Rick Turner, and Jeff Jones. Honorary pallbearers: Mike McKenzie, Joe McKenzie and Dean Lamay.
