Vernon Ray Jones, 69, of 298 Main Street, Salt Lick, passed away Monday April 2, 2012 at his residence after a 3 year battle with cancer.
Born November 30, 1942 the son of the late Jesse and Stella Carter Jones. He was a retired 25 year employee of Rockwell International and had worked for Bath County 911 Dispatch for 10 years and was currently employed as a court bailiff with the Bath County Sheriff's Office. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in Germany and had served 14 years with the U.S. Army Reserve and was an active member of the Salt Lick Volunteer Fire Department and member of the Midland First Church Of God.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Keeton Jones, 1 son, Vernon Joe Jones of Jeffersonville, KY, 2 daughters, Norma Lipps and her husband Jim of Rowan County and Tawanna Huff and her husband Bill of Menifee County, 4 sisters, Elizabeth Burton and husband Forest, Thelma Shockey, Winston Arnett and Peggy Jones all of Owingsville, KY, 7 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death, in addition to his parents, was a sister, Wilma Katherine Jones.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday April 5, 2012 at 1:00 PM at the Midland First Church Of God with Rev. Bush Stevenson officiating. Burial will follow in the Old Virginia Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday April 4 from 5:00 PM – 9:00 PM at the Midland First Church Of God. Serving as pallbearers will be Salt Lick Volunteer Fire Department members, L.W. Patton, Brent Frizzell, Randy Crouch, Greg Alley, Steve Anderson and Sam Davison.
