Richard Kyle Alley

Richard Kyle Alley, 53, of Severance, Colorado and formerly of Salt Lick, KY, passed away September 18, 2015, two days after being struck by a truck while bike riding in the town where he lived.
Born June 20, 1962, he was the son of Mrs. Pauline Sorrell Alley of Salt Lick, KY and the late Benjamin Franklin Alley, Jr..
Richard grew up in Kentucky on the family farm near Cave Run Lake and was a National Merit Scholar as well as receiving other distinguished academic honors while at Bath County High School where he graduated in 1980. He graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1984 from the University Of Kentucky with a B.S. degree in electrical engineering, and he work for Hewlett-Packard for several years before getting his Masters degree in electrical engineering at Stanford University. Richard did pursue a Doctorate degree in electrical engineering at University Of North Carolina but decided to return to work for Hewlett-Packard before completing. He worked for Hewlett-Packard in Fort Collins, Colorado for many years before his division was sold to Intel, where he worked until his death. At both companies, Richard was a valuable engineer and team member and was known for getting things done. During his many years living in the Fort Collins area, Richard enjoyed both road and trail bike riding, snow skiing, restoring antique radios, operating his HAM radio, being godfather to his niece and staying in touch with friends, especially his friends from Kentucky. He won awards for the antique radios he restored and exhibited during shows.
Richard was never married and had no children and in addition to his mother, he is survived by his older brother, Rodney Alley and his wife Florita and their children Bella and Benjamin of Albany, Oregon and his younger brother, Randall Alley of Plano, Texas.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday September 28, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Lakeview Community Church with Bro. Eddie Dennison officiating. Interment will follow in the Carey Cemetery in Rowan County. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM Sunday September 27, 2015 at Lakeview Community Church. Powell Funeral Home of Salt Lick, KY is caring for arrangements.
